Matthew Schroeder, CPFS

Director of Program Development & Strategic Initiatives

Matthew Schroeder serves as Director of Program Development and Strategic Initiatives at Untethered Recovery, where he brings together strategic vision and lived experience to build programs that create lasting change. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), CCAR Trainer of Trainers, and behavioral health consultant with experience in grant-funded initiatives, Matthew occupies a rare intersection of clinical credibility and human-centered leadership.

His approach to program development and curriculum design draws from the foundational work of William White and Gabor Maté — thinkers who share a commitment to understanding addiction not as a moral failure, but as a deeply human response to pain and disconnection. This philosophy shapes everything Matthew builds: training frameworks, recovery pathways, and organizational systems designed to meet people where they are and walk with them toward something better.

For Matthew, strategic growth is never purely organizational. It is about removing barriers — practical, systemic, and relational — so that individuals and communities can access the care they need before the moment of crisis becomes the point of no return.

Outside of his work, Matthew stays grounded through creativity and the outdoors. He channels his hands-on energy into home renovation and DIY projects, and finds quieter satisfaction in tending his gardens. When it's time to decompress, his playlist tells the story — Widespread Panic, Shaky Graves, and Colter Wall on steady rotation.
