Kyle Hunt
Peer Recovery Specialist Supervisor
John serves as a Peer Recovery Specialist Supervisor at Untethered Recovery. He is an Advanced Peer Recovery Specialist (APRS), Qualified Behavioral Health Assistant (QBHA), COPA-CPFS, licensed facilitator for The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. He is currently pursuing his Certified Addiction Technician (CAT) and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) certifications.
John's passion for recovery work is rooted in his own lived experience. Growing up surrounded by addiction, mental health challenges, incarceration, and family instability, he understands firsthand how difficult it can be to overcome the circumstances life hands us. Through recovery, self-reflection, and personal growth, John came to realize that while he may not have chosen the challenges he faced, he could choose what came next. Today, he is committed to helping others do the same.
He is especially passionate about supporting individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including those transitioning from incarceration, halfway houses, and sober living environments. John believes peer support fills an important gap by connecting people with someone who has walked a similar path. He understands that people often gravitate toward those they can relate to, and he takes pride in being able to connect with clients through shared experiences and authentic understanding.
John's approach is simple: help people who need a little support finding their next step. Whether that means connecting someone with resources, helping them develop a plan, or sharing what worked in his own recovery, he focuses on meeting people where they are. He values honesty, transparency, and trust, believing that meaningful relationships are built on authenticity and consistency.
Outside of work, John enjoys coaching CrossFit, spending time in the gym, and anything automotive. His commitment to personal growth and accountability extends into every area of his life.
With a laugh, John mentioned "People are like tea bags—you don't know their true strength until they're in hot water." He believes adversity often reveals strengths people never knew they had.
When clients walk through the doors of Untethered Recovery, John wants them to know one thing: Everyone is welcome. No matter where they've been or what they've experienced, they deserve the opportunity to build a better future.
